Amazing Organic Shaped Furniture Inspired By Nature
Looking for truly unique, sustainably made organic shaped furniture? We’ve got some incredible inspo for you!
By Diane Small
Nature is, in my opinion, always the best designer. She uses Fibonacci sequences to create beautiful, symmetrical patterns. And she uses water and wind to erode shapes into wabi sabi perfection.
So no wonder many furniture creators have been inspired by the forms found in nature, including plants, leaves, rocks, water and fungi.
No one knows this more than luxury specialist Naoto Nakada. We invited Nakada to curate some of the most marvellous, organic shaped furniture and other objects for your home. Each one was inspired by Mother Nature, and adds a touch of opulence to any room.
Naoto Nakada sources exquisite hidden gems for those who seek the extraordinary with unparalleled creativity and uncompromising standards. He specialises in fine furnishings, decor, luxury fashion, accessories, contemporary art and one-of-a-kind gifts, as well as limited editions and bespoke commissions.

These remarkable pieces are a testament to the seamless fusion of luxury and conscientious craftsmanship.
Organic Shaped Home Decor Inspired By Nature
1. Tephra Credenza By Marcin Rusak
Polish multidisciplinary designer Marcin Rusak explores ephemerality and the reconsideration of what many view as waste. Resembling petrified fragments left by volcanoes and paying homage to her family heritage of floriculture, Rusak has buried real flowers under a paper-thin layer of liquified molten zinc.
Evoking the alien world left by Pompeii, the fleeting state of floral bloom has met the eternity of industrial prowess.

2. DC2336 by Vincenzo De Cotiis
Renowned Italian artist Vincenzo De Cotiis has hand-crafted an elegant curved table in his atelier from black onyx and cast white bronze.
One of only eight such tables in existence, he has emulated the arched silhouette of a city skyline by drawing inspiration from ethnology and his architectural studies.

An icon of American midcentury modern furniture, Vladimir Kagan’s oeuvre of sinuous grace has found itself in the most distinguished homes around the world. 4. Plain Cuts Remediated SS1903 By Wonmin Park
Paris-based South Korean sculptor Wonmin Park is known for his surreal boundless forms. Park chose resin for its texture as it awakened “the sensation of painting enveloped air.”
Emphasising its natural lightness, he shares how “the form resembles the Atlas Mountains [while the] inside looks like the ocean.” It certainly is a unique piece!

5. Clay Basel Chair Bronze By Maarten Baas
Dutch designer Maarten Baas has achieved chic simplicity through polished bronze moulded from hand-shaped clay. You can see his playful works in the permanent museum collections of MoMA (New York), LACMA (Los Angeles) and the Victoria & Albert Museum (London).
This chair was inspired by tree branches, and is offered in polished or patinated bronze in a limited edition of 20.

6. Ofidia Side Table By the Campana Brothers
This side table seems to be magically shaped and suspended in air! São Paulo based furniture designer Humberto Campana has deftly woven rope cast in bronze.
The organic table evokes the slithery shapes of snakes, or perhaps a tree. Depending on your perspective, of course! It also comes in red bronze and aluminium as an exclusive set of 25. Oh, and there’s also the Ofidia centre table, too, if you’re looking for a larger version.

8. New Orleans #8 by Ron Arad
Demonstrating an affinity for high-tech design, Ron Arad creates imaginative contemporary furniture. His architectural talent is on display at a Yohji Yamamoto boutique in Tokyo. It also features on the technology floor at Selfridges of London.
The one of 18 chair was built from pigmented polyester reinforced with fibreglass in a manner of “building the coloured layers from the outside in.”
For us, it evokes the curved forms of a boulder. What do you see?

9. Lectori Salutem Desk Bronze by the Verhoeven Twins
The Amsterdam-based Verhoeven Twins believe “industrial production is as beautiful and inspiring as craft.” They’ve established their case through the undulating surface of 150 panels precisely clad on a 316 stainless steel frame. At the rear, you can see the complex scaffolding. It beautifully contrasts the smooth bronze coated polish.
