La Querola D’ordino brings organic architecture to Spain
By Bec Gregory
La Querola D’ordino elevates the concept of community living to new heights! The luxury development presents a new way of living. Its award-winning design deeply honours nature and satisfies a longing for harmonious living with each other and the natural world.
The opulent residential complex nestled in the heart of the Valle de Ordino, Andorra, sets new standards in sustainable luxury living. It has recently won the prestigious title of Best Luxury Sustainable Architecture Residential Development, 2023 by Luxury Lifestyle Awards. And no wonder!
This accolade recognises the projects exceptional commitment to blending sustainable design, luxury, and natural beauty. And La Querola D’Ordino does all that, and more!
A Symphony of Design and Nature
La Querola D’Ordino’s award-winning organic architecture and design embraces the natural beauty of the surrounding environment. It’s in the small valley of Ordino, where alpine forests and high peaks shape the landscape. Instead of the development taking away from the natural environment, it is beautifully in service to it.
Defined by seven monolithic structures, the complex is consciously crafted from stone, wood, steel, and glass. Its unique character and charm come to life through the meticulous design of north and south façades. Each one harmonises with the surrounding natural beauty.
The north façades feature wavy skins of slate slabs, glass openings, balconies, and covered terraces. These cleverly mirror the rugged granitic landscape in front with their interesting geometric aesthetic. The south façades, made of treated wood and glass, elegantly open into the lush forest surroundings, inviting abundant sunlight and tranquil energy into the living space, connecting contemporary design with the surrounding environment, and creating a private sanctuary immersed in nature. (It’s also perfect for forest bathing!).
La Querola D’Ordino is not just a residence; it’s a vision of the future where luxury and sustainability walk hand in hand. It’s where the simplicity of living becomes an art form, and the natural world becomes an integral part of your everyday life.
La Querola D’Ordino’s organic architecture integrates enriching communal spaces that delight both the eye and the mind. From the spacious reception area to the spa, pools, and gardens, every space is an invitation to socialise, relax, or simply enjoy nature.
The gardens have been carefully designed to include local species, rocks, ponds, walking paths, and staircases that connect the seven buildings, all recreating the surrounding environment with a contemporary touch.
A Collaborative Masterpiece
The astonishing residential complex of 51 signature homes set in La Querola D’Ordino’s organic architecture is the result of a brilliant collaboration between distinguished architects and designers. Led by French architect Jean Nouvel of Ateliers Jean Nouvel, in collaboration with Barcelona-based Josep Ribas of Ribas & Ribas Arquitectos, and Andorra-based Jordi Sala of Arquitectura Jordi Sala. This dream team brought their unique expertise to make the extraordinary project a reality.
This development embodies the luxury of simplicity while seamlessly blending with the pristine natural surroundings. It’s a place where every stone, every beam of wood, and every detail works to create a harmonious living environment.
A Legacy of Sustainability
The DNA of the organic architecture of La Querola D’Ordino is rooted in people, sustainability, and the environment. The design aims to minimise its environmental footprint while providing residents with a truly luxurious living experience. Sustainability is increasingly important in modern living. And La Querola D’Ordino stands out for its commitment to creating eco luxury.
The development showcases an unwavering commitment to ecological awareness. It ensures that every aspect of the project adheres to sustainability principles.
For example? The entire community is powered by geothermal energy systems. This brings remarkable energy efficiency and cost savings for residents. Unsurprisingly, the development has achieved A Level Energy Certifications. And all involved companies adhere to stringent sustainability criteria, using products with environmental certifications.
As the world seeks more sustainable ways of living, La Querola D’Ordino is leading the way. It proves that luxury and sustainability can coexist beautifully.
